The Beginner's Guide to Meditating with Crystals

The Beginner's Guide to Meditating with Crystals

On any given day, it can feel like we’re lurching from one screen to the next, giving our attention to everyone but ourselves. Meditation offers a way to take back control of your attention and invest it in yourself. Meditating with crystals can amplify the benefits of meditation and help you stay focused in your practice. Today, we’re jumping into the wonderful world of crystal meditation. If you’re new to meditation or unsure how to incorporate crystals into your practice, read on!

1. Set an Intention for Your Meditation Practice

When beginning meditation, most people choose to practice mindfulness meditation. But there are a ton of ways to meditate: spiritual, loving-kindness, abundance, and visualization meditations can all be super powerful. Decide which feels right for you and set an intention for your practice. I typically default to mindfulness meditation, but I’ll sometimes try other types depending on my mood. Loving-kindness meditation, for example, is great for counteracting negativity you may be holding towards others, and visualization is a great way to transition into sleep.

2. Choose Your Crystals

With an intention for your practice, it may be easier to narrow down which types of crystals to use. Each crystal has a unique set of properties that facilitate different types of meditation. There are dozens to choose from, but here are a few of my faves:

  • Clear quartz promotes clarity of thought
  • Carnelian can help connect you with the present moment
  • Rose quartz can help foster feelings of self-love and love for others
  • Amethyst calms the mind and balances emotions.
  • Agate grounds and stabilizes

3. Decide How to Incorporate Crystals Into your Practice

There are a few ways to use crystals during meditation. The most common way is to sit cross legged on the floor and arrange the crystals around you in a circle. If there is a particular chakra you would like to connect with, you can lie down and place the crystal upon that chakra. I love meditating in the bath surrounded by candles, and often submerge crystals around me in the tub. However you choose to do it, you’ll notice an extra boost from the crystals!

4. Experiment to Find What Works

Don’t be afraid to play around with your practice to find what works best for you. Try different guided meditations, visualization techniques, or positions. You may even try meditating at different times of day or in different places in your home. Of course, you should try different crystals to find which resonate most with you. The goal here is to find a way of meditating that you can realistically turn into a habit—and whichever method is most rewarding is likely to be the one you stick with!

5. Commit to Consistent Practice

Consistency is key, and that’s especially true for meditation. If your mind is a muscle, meditation is like to going to the gym. Once you’ve found a method of meditating that works for you, commit to daily practice. I have a dedicated space in my backyard where I sit in the evenings to meditate. I’ve hung crystal hangers and suncatchers out there and keep some favorite pieces from my collection nearby to meditate with. Creating this space for myself has been a huge reason I’ve been able to make meditation a habit, and it’s unbelievable how much this practice has changed my life.

Start Creating Change With Crystal Meditation

There’s no right or wrong way to meditate with crystals—the important thing is to set an intention and show up each day. When you’re new to meditation, you may find it difficult to stay present. However, as with anything, the more you practice, the easier it gets. Crystals can help you stay dialed in and get the most out of your meditation practice. As you progress, you’ll have the clarity and emotional stamina necessary to work towards living your truth, pursuing your goals, and finding inner peace and fulfillment.
